Menopause at Work — Understanding, Dignity and Everyday Support
Menopause is a natural stage of life, but workplace experiences vary considerably. Symptoms can be physical or mental, may change over time and can affect confidence, comfort, concentration, attendance and working relationships.
This practical half-day course gives employees and managers a shared language for discussing menopause with dignity. It challenges myths, avoids stereotypes and helps everyone understand how to offer support without intrusion, embarrassment or assumptions.
Managers receive additional guidance on private conversations, absence, performance, confidentiality and when workplace changes or specialist advice may be appropriate.

Every Experience Is Different — and That's the Point
Not everyone experiencing menopause will want or need the same support
This half-day session is designed to build a shared, respectful understanding across your whole team quickly, in language everyone can relate to. Perimenopause, menopause, postmenopause, early menopause and medical menopause can affect people differently — and silence, jokes and assumptions can make people reluctant to ask for support.
Colleagues can help create inclusion without asking personal medical questions. Managers need to respond sensitively when symptoms may affect attendance, performance or wellbeing — without assuming attitude or capability is the issue.
Menopause is not itself a protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010, but disability, age, sex or gender reassignment protections may be relevant — managers should focus on support and workplace impact rather than diagnosis or legal status.
This session builds understanding and confidence for everyone — not just those who may be directly affected.
Silence Costs More Than an Awkward Conversation
Silence, jokes and assumptions can make people reluctant to ask for support, and not everyone experiencing menopause will want or need the same thing — a one-size-fits-all response can miss what actually helps.
Colleagues can help create inclusion without asking personal medical questions, and managers need to respond sensitively when symptoms may affect attendance, performance or wellbeing, rather than treating a change as an attitude problem.

Half-Day Workshop Outline
The workshop combines clear information with everyday scenarios — the goal is confidence and dignity, not medical expertise.
Delegates develop a clear, inclusive foundation covering the stages and variation of menopause, using a "myth or fact?" opening activity, then explore how symptoms may interact with the work itself — concentration, temperature, breaks, meetings and workload — while avoiding a fixed list that labels individuals.
The group considers how everyday comments can build trust or create embarrassment, practising a language exercise that replaces dismissive or intrusive phrases with respectful responses, then explores what good colleague support looks like — listening and choice rather than advice-giving or questioning.
Managers learn to explore workplace impact fairly rather than assuming attitude or capability, using the Elevate Impact support framework: Listen → Understand → Explore → Agree → Review. A practical "what would you say?" activity applies this to real situations, closing with each delegate identifying one personal behaviour, one team practice and one support route to strengthen.
