Neurodiversity Awareness Training — Practical Skills for Housing, Customer Service and Frontline Teams
Approximately one in seven people in the UK is neurodivergent. Autism Spectrum Condition, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia and other neurodivergent conditions influence communication, information processing, emotional regulation, sensory experience and responses to change. For housing officers, contact centre advisers, support workers and frontline employees, encounters with neurodiverse adults are a daily reality.
Without an understanding of how neurodivergent individuals experience services differently, well-intentioned staff can inadvertently cause distress, escalate situations or deliver poorer outcomes — and potentially breach Equality Act 2010 reasonable adjustment obligations. This full-day programme gives delegates the knowledge, communication skills and confidence to support neurodiverse adults effectively — with a 90-day action plan for building more inclusive services.

Half-Day Workshop vs Full-Day Programme
Both formats develop genuine neurodiversity awareness. The right choice depends on the depth of skill development your team needs and how quickly you need to reach large numbers of staff.
| Half-Day Workshop | Full-Day Programme | |
|---|---|---|
| Positioning | Essential awareness — Autism, ADHD, communication adaptation and inclusion basics | Full capability — all conditions, de-escalation, Equality Act compliance and 90-day action plan |
| Duration | 3–3.5 hours | 6–7 hours |
| Best For | Whole-organisation awareness rollouts where maximum reach is needed quickly | Teams who regularly support neurodiverse adults and need depth of skill, not just awareness |
| Content | Autism and ADHD in adults, communication adaptation and reasonable adjustment essentials | Full conditions suite, de-escalation, sensory processing, Equality Act compliance and team action planning |
| Practice | 1–2 scenario discussions and communication adaptation exercises | Multiple realistic scenarios, de-escalation practice and 90-day team action plan |
| Investment | Lower — ideal for reaching large numbers of frontline staff cost-effectively | Premium — deeper behavioural change and stronger Equality Act compliance for teams with regular complex interactions |

Full-Day Neurodiversity Awareness Training Programme
Delegates build a genuine understanding of neurodiversity — exploring Autism Spectrum Condition, ADHD, dyslexia and dyspraxia in adults and how each presents in frontline service interactions. They apply this understanding to realistic housing and customer service scenarios, recognising neurodivergent behaviours that are frequently misread as non-compliance, aggression or obstruction.
Delegates practise adapting communication — adjusting language, pace, structure and environment — and apply structured de-escalation techniques for distress, sensory overload and processing differences. They develop practical understanding of Equality Act 2010 reasonable adjustment obligations and what these mean in day-to-day service delivery.
Delegates apply learning to their specific service environment, identify the three most common neurodivergent scenarios in their role, and develop a 90-day team action plan — specific, achievable commitments for building more inclusive and neurodiverse-affirming services from day one back in the workplace.
